Oscar Fashion

Best Dressed, in my opinion:

Sandra Bullock looked fabulous in red.

I loved Scarlett Johansson's hair! And the dress...the color was perfect for her.

Mila Kunis was best dressed to me. I have a soft spot for the cast of "That 70's Show" and Mila has been on a tear this awards season.

"Winter's Bone" was such a bleak and depressing movie, but Jennifer Lawrence looked beautiful and as the first on the red carpet set the bar high.

Seriously, does Halle Berry ever look bad?

WTF??

Russell Brand looked like he had been on a bender for days!

Marisa Tomei had too much botox! and the dress was oddly ugly.

Florence Welch..oy!

Cate Blanchett, normally so exquisite. She looked like The Mad Hatter puked up her dress.

The Couples:

Jason Statham and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. I <3 him!

Robert Downey Jr. and Susan. They are such a fabulous couple!

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves.

Javier Bardem & Penelope Cruz. can you believe she just had a baby?

The Hotties:

Mark "Don't call me Marky Mark" Wahlberg and Christian Bale. Mark is just so good looking. (Of course, I always prefer his Calvin Klein pictures...)

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Is it December yet??? I want to draw hearts around these two and their mad chemistry as Holmes & Watson!

Jeremy Renner. I thought he was so amazing in "The Town" and can't wait for "The Avengers" to come out.

Gerard Butler (w/ Jason Bateman). He is just hot!

Oscar Thoughts

Did you all watch the Academy Awards last night?

I have to tell ya, I watched both red carpet and awards show while on Twitter and it was really a fun night last night. The best part of Twitter is how fast it moves and the conversation flowed. Let’s face it, most awards shows are pretty boring and if you aren’t able to watch them with friends where you can have that conversation, then I was happy to have my tweeting pals around.

I saw nine of the ten nominated films. Time ran out and I didn’t get to see “True Grit”. (I saw “Inception” but didn’t really pay attention as I was suffering a horrendous headache so I do want to see that one again where I can really focus on it.)

My red carpet thoughts will be in the next post. There were some gorgeous dresses last night. There were some WTH dresses last night. And there were hot boys!!

James Franco & Anne Hathaway as hosts? Thoughts? I thought they were okay. I’ve seen worse, definitely seen better (Billy Crystal, come back!). Franco did appear bored (stoned) through the majority of the program, but I laughed so hard at seeing him dressed as Marilyn Monroe.

I called the big awards – Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, and Animated Film. (Come on, you knew that Toy Story 3 was going to win that one!) I was really excited for Christian Bale (and got a laugh when he forgot his wife’s name when he got so overwhelmed) and for Natalie Portman (she is such a cute pregnant lady).

Overall not too bad of a show. It had some dull points, of course, as do most Academy Awards telecasts and they left Corey Haim out in the “In Memory Of”, but not a bad show.

Friday Five

1. How awesome are these bunk beds for dogs? Hehe! Bo and Molly would not be impressed. Tyson, however, would love the top bunk!

2. Speaking of Tyson, Liz sent me a couple of pictures she came across as my boy as a wee little man! I can’t wait for her to scan them in and post them. Tyson came from a home across the street from us at roughly 6 weeks old. He was two times the size of his litter mates because he refused to let them nurse. He fought me the whole way across the street, hissing and screeching. His attitude was established as a baby. I think that ugly attitude just became legend and stuck with him. Love that boy of mine.

3. I’m taking Michaela to hopefully see “Rango” tomorrow morning on a sneak peek pass. Not too sure about how I think this movie looks, but Johnny Depp is the voice of Rango and I do love Depp!!

4. Oscars are this weekend. Will you be watching? I need to watch “True Grit” and “The King’s Speech” and will have seen all the nominated movies. These are the two that I am dragging my feet on seeing. “The King’s Speech” does not really appeal to me at all. I still say that “The Fighter” was the best film.

5. Can we discuss Charlie Sheen and the debacle of his life for a moment? The thing is I have always enjoyed Charlie Sheen, the actor. Unfortunately his personal life is overshadowing everything he has ever done professionally anymore. Whenever he is mentioned, it is about his drunken/drug induced outbursts and the women in his life. Martin Sheen making excuses for his son’s disgusting behavior is nothing but enabling and the forced “rehab” was quite the joke, wasn’t it? Yep, rehabbing in your house and then at a resort in the Bahamas with a p0rn star and a call girl as your escorts is really going to help get your life back in order. His outbursts yesterday, attacking Chuck Lorre and babbling like a derange lunatic, just made me sad for him and the loss of his career. And what is even more annoying is the fact that we all know if this was a woman that was acting like this that Hollywood would have turned their back on her by now and wrote her off as a lost cause.

Hello my friends!

Is it Friday yet? Holiday weeks always seem to drag on the longest of them all. Especially when you have an annoying co-worker that just makes the days seem longer than normal. When she bothers to come to work, she does this ANNOYING open mouth humming thing while listening to her music.

Have you all heard Pink’s new song, “F***in’ Perfect”? I love it. LOVE it!!! Pink is such an amazing artist and this song just speaks volumes about the way we see ourselves and social/peer pressure affects us.

(That is the clean edit, by the way. And it is a very harsh video, but the song is beautiful. I can't deny the video made me cry the first time I saw it.)

Book Time: There's cake in my future by Kim Gruenenfelder

Can you force fate to work your way? Superstitious bride-to-be, Nic, believes she can by arranging for her friends to pull out "prearranged" charms during a cake pull at her bridal shower in order to shape their destiny. Naturally things can't go as planned and no one gets the charms they were supposed to get. Nicole ends up with the baby carriage, something that is not in her plans for the future, wanting to get her writing career going again. Besides she has two step-daughters in her life already. Melissa, supposed to get the diamond ring in hopes of making her boyfriend propose, ends up with the red hot chili pepper; which is symbolic of a red hot love affair. Seema was supposed to receive the chili pepper, but instead receives the shovel. The shovel is symbolic of hard work, which is what Nic was supposed to pull. Melissa's six year relationship with Fred falls apart, sending her into a frenzy to make her charm come true by finding a hot love affair. Seema, in love with her best friend Scott, struggles to deal with her feelings for him and his obvious platonic only interest in her. And Nicole? Her life is definitely not going how she envisions when she marries Jason, a NBA coach, and becomes a full time mother to his two daughters when their mother gets a job out of town. The ride is a bumpy one to each lady finding their true destiny.

I passed by this book a couple of times in the store before finally buying it and am so glad I did. Kim Gruenenfelder has wove a fun story of three friends and their journey to find life's purpose and happiness. Granted there is a moment in the book where each of three main characters are unlikable but it is done in a very realistic human approach. By the end of the book, you are rooting for each of the three to get their happily-ever-after and it is disappointing to find you are at the last page of the book. (My only complaint is I was left unsure as to WHO'S party you were at in the end?) It was a great read and I have already added the other books by Kim Gruenenfelder to my must read list.

(You can get this book from Amazon or your local book store. This was my second book for the Chick Lit Plus 2011 Challenge.)

Stylish Bloggar Award

Lesli gave me the Stylish Blogger Award. In order to accept I have to give 7 random facts about myself and then pass it on.

1. I have serious wanderlust. I am always wanting to be roaming and traveling. My bank account does not support this passion.

2. I have a habit of picking apart my food or eating it in rounds (veggie first always) and I don't like my food to touch each other.

3. I have always loved horses but do not like actually riding horses.

4. I almost drowned when I was 8. This has led to a life time fear of open bodies of water.

5. I love to read and generally am reading 2-3 books at a single time.

6. I gnaw on my nails when I get stressed. I have been trying to work on breaking this habit, unfortunately it is being replaced by chewing gum...a lot of gum.

7. I love the smell of lemon scented dishwasher detergent.

I'm going to pass this on to my fabulous sister Liz, Rose at Brown-Eyed Girl's Glance at the World, Leslie at Leslie's Journey, and Kristie at The Writer's Block

Have an update!

I have started so many times over the last week to put up an update and then either writer's block hit or I just lost steam. I've had to stick up that negativity deflector shield a few times. But the plague has left the building and I am feeling completely up to par.

So let's see, what is up...

I am going to apply to be a volunteer at Phoenix Comic Con. I would totally love to be a guest escort. But there are a few different things I would be up to doing. /geek

Can we talk about how evil Farmville is on Facebook? I always say I'm going to stop playing and then a new baby animal is introduced, particularly the horses. As I tell Jo, who is my crack/foal dealer, it is a sure sign that I would be an animal hoarder.

I've been trying to catch all the Oscar nominated films before the big awards ceremony. This past weekend I saw "Blue Valentine" and "The kids are all right". "Blue Valentine" was so depressing, but Ryan Gosling & Michelle Williams were just incredible in the story of a married couple falling apart. "The kids are all right" was merely alright for me. I think it was hyped way too much and I went in expecting more than it gave. Next up is "Winter's Bone" and "The King's Speech". (Then I have "127 Hours" and "True Grit" to go.)

What's coming up this weekend?

* Lesli gave me the "Stylish Blogger" award so I need to accept it and pass it on to a few stylish bloggers of my own.

* The Scottsdale Arabian horse show is coming up and Friday is free night.

* There are a couple of new movies that I want to try to see.

* I have a book review to post for the Chick Lit Challenge.

* I need to get to the library and get a library card!

* A couple of more serious blogs are brewing and I need to get them out.

* I get a nap one day!

Disappointed.

Before I get into the whole disappointment issue, what was your favorite commercial for the Super Bowl?

Hands down, my favorite was the Volkswagon commercial with Darth Vader! Followed by the Pug Doritos commercial.

The game, obviously, didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to. But I want to thank my favorite girls for keeping me company via text and on Facebook through the game. (Even a certain cat had a few thoughts to add.) You definitely made the sting a little easier to deal with. I’m a loyal fan. My team has good days and bad days. They have some brilliant wins and some utterly humiliating losses, but I stay a faithful fan to the Steelers. (and the Yankees.) What sucked even worse than the loss last night was the disappointment I felt in other people.

We all know that Ben Roethlisberger had some serious drama surrounding him in the off season last year. As the charges were dropped I am not saying I felt he was guilty or innocent. He certainly isn’t the first, nor will he be the last, athlete to have scandal in his personal life. I say look at what he achieves on the field professionally. For a “friend” of mine to tell me how disappointed she is in ME for supporting a team that would have Big Ben play for them, I have to say one person’s actions doesn’t mean the whole team is not worthy.

For the fair-weather fans that turned on the team during the game so they wouldn’t be supporting the losing team – give me a break. Nothing is more annoying than those types of fans. So you can only support a winner? What does that say about you? Makes you sound like a quitter who runs when things aren’t going your way. I don’t care if they lost every game during the season, I am still there supporting the team that I love.

The loopy “friend” that obnoxiously tweeted ugly comments during the Super Bowl in an attempt to get the attention of some celebrity? The one with the “I may be the only person not watching football but I hate the Steelers”? And the one with the comment “The NFL showed the Steelers they don’t support scandal”? Ya know what? Grow up. Texting me to tell me you hate the team I am rooting for is so petty. I never make a big deal over a friend’s team losing. I would never root for the Dallas Cowboys or the Boston Red Sox, but I respect your right to do so and would never act so immature towards you. Yes, it is just a game. Which I also think should mean you don't have to act like that. (And I'm not the only one that got zinged by people last night so this is not just me that felt this way in the end.)

Addict!!

That is the face of an addict!

Tyson has become obsessed with his new cat treats, Purina's Whisker Lickin's. I have to hide them because he will obsessively try to tear the bag open. When he realizes I have hid them he sits there and yowls. Give him one of those treats and his eyes get all huge and glazed over.

He is going to have to be cut off soon!

GO STEELERS!!

Super Bowl Sunday is here!!! Can't wait for the game to start, can't wait to see The Black Eyed Peas do their half time show, and can't wait to cheer for my boys!

(Then I have a few weeks to wait until baseball starts up and I can cheer for my Yankees!)

Yesterday I joined the geeky masses and signed on to the Comic Con website at 10AM on the dot (okay at 9:58) to order tickets to the annual Comic Con in San Diego. It took an hour to get tickets ordered (due to the site having massive issues of being overwhelmed)but I am happy to say that tickets are ordered and I am ready for the nerd nirvana in July.

TGIF!

So here we are, 35 days into the new year! Those of you with resolutions, how are you doing with them? Hanging in there? Of course, I do goals instead of resolutions and so far so good.

My sister asked if I wanted to do the Biggest Loser challenge with her and so far I have lost 10 of the 25 lbs I signed up to lose. Granted I have been sick with the plague (flu) for the last two weeks and that is the biggest reason for the weight loss, but still. Now to just keep off what I lost while sick.

I have enjoyed some incredible cinema so far this year. And same goes for reading some great books. So I say so far, other than being sick, I have not had too shabby of a start to 2011. And it will only get better as the year goes by.

As I mentioned, I have the plague. Yes, it is just the flu but plague is more dramatic and I’m being all drama queen cry baby over it. I stayed home from work yesterday and I gotta say, that sucked. I can only stand to lay down/sleep for so long, even when sick. So I spent the majority of the day sitting on the couch with the dogs staring at lame daytime TV. When I was a kid and played sick so I could stay home, there was ALWAYS something to watch on TV. As an adult, there isn’t. So I decided to bring the zombie act back to work today. And for those wondering, no I did not have the flu shot. I fear needles. At the best I get queasy and throw up. At worst I hyperventilate, if not pass out.

Tomorrow is the day to get Comic Con tickets! So excited!! I can't wait to finally have the tickets bought. But more than that then I can start fully planning a fabulous trip to San Diego with Rose, Lisa, and Jazz!

Sunday is the Super Bowl! Go Steelers!!

What do you all have planned for the weekend?
